Planning ahead

Explore a Medicaid asset protection trust, its restrictions, and how timing and applicable transfer rules affect the options.

Medicaid application assistance

Get help identifying required documents, preparing an application, and responding to requests for information. We confirm the application work and fee separately from trust planning.

We’ll discuss your assets, household needs, and goals to identify the planning or application assistance that fits your circumstances. Proposed asset transfers deserve review before you make changes.

Discuss which assets may be appropriate for a Medicaid asset protection trust, what you need to keep available, and how transfer timing affects the plan.

Your household’s needs

Your care preferences, your home, a spouse’s needs, and the money you need for everyday life all help shape the plan.

Your concerns, family circumstances, assets, and priorities shape our recommendations.

How we move forward.

  1. 01

  2. 02

    Prepare and review

Review the relevant financial information and documents. For trust planning, work through trustee choices, assets, and trust terms. For an application, assemble the required information and review the submission.

  3. 03

    Put the plan into effect

For trust planning, sign the documents and plan the asset transfers. For application assistance, prepare the submission and any agreed follow-up responses. We explain which steps we handle and what you need to do.

Common questions

Before you call.

What should we discuss before setting up a Medicaid trust?

Start with your goals, property and income, and any current or anticipated care needs. We discuss timing, how the proposed trust would work—including access to assets—and the practical steps and scope of assistance before you proceed. Medicaid eligibility depends on the applicable rules and your circumstances, not simply on creating a trust.

Can you help with a Medicaid application?

Yes. We help with routine Medicaid applications in New York and New Jersey, including supporting documents and responses to requests for information. We confirm the assistance and fee before starting. The Medicaid agency determines eligibility for benefits; applying for benefits is separate from creating a trust.

What should I bring to an initial consultation?

Start with an overview of your home, other assets, income, and planning goals. Mention any existing wills or trusts, if you have them. We’ll explain which documents would be helpful for the next step.

How long will this take?

Timing depends on the work involved, the information needed, and signing arrangements. Let us know about any deadline so we can discuss a realistic timeframe.
